Hey,

I am thinking about building a small 1 bedroom (Tiny House) style for Airbnb on some land I am in the process of acquiring.

No if hypothetically I have planning permission etc my question is

If I build a stud wall following (Timber Frame - Shell) Specifications and I want to have a second story. Do I need to add steel or can larger beams / thicker timbers on external / internal walls be sufficient. I see some places advise on a steel but on timber frame homes near me ive only ever seen them crossing the patio doors because that is a particularly large void.

Either.

However the ground floor frame must be designed to take the additional storey. The building inspector will probably want to see the design calcs to justify it.

Design it as two story using SIPs and then only build the ground floor.
