Hi - hoping someone out there can help
Just moved into a house with above boiler and can't see to get central heating to work separate from heating water and vice versa.

Fine in summer, we can heat the water but have all the radiators off, but in winter when radiators will be on a lot, we don't want to have the water heating continously...

Is there a way to do it separately???
Cheers

Possibly an old gravity system . Is there 4 pipes coming from boiler or just 2

No . Is there motorised valves either two 2 ports or one 3 port . usually in airing cupboard

Would this be beside the hot water tank (in airing cupboard)? Not come across any other exposed pipes apart from where boiler and tank are.
Sorry, you can tell I don't have a clue...

Some old fully pumped systems didn't have proper controls fitted. You may find that there is just a gate valve on the flow to the rads just before it goes under the floor in the airing cupboard, if thats all you've got then you are stuck with HW on all the time the heating is called for.

can you not speak to previous owners and ask them what controls what, when and how.
