Quick question,replacing double light switch with 2x singles

Hi folks,

Might be a silly/simple question, but best to be safe rather than sorry I guess.

I'm altering out room layout slightly, and have left myself with two light fittings either side of a wall, but a double switch with two sets of wiring going to it.

Obviously, having a double switch is less than ideal, is it simply a case of buying two single switches of the correct rating and putting one set of wires to each switch? Or is there some sort of electricians 'dark art' to be aware of? lol.

The wiring would be going back into it's original 'safe zone' btw, just with switches either side of the wall.

assuming you have two cables with two cores (+earth) in each, then yes.

It is just a case of pulling back one of the cables to your new switch position and terminating one cable to COM and one to L1

The safe zone will be created by the new switch, so assuming your cable drops straight down from the ceiling to the switch, it's in the safe zone

Aye, currently the earths there are joined and sleeved together, so there is indeed two cores plus earths (which can be separated and re-sleeved). And yes, both will be straight down the wall to the switches. Top stuff.
