Hello it's quiet in my forum, and something I've wondered for ages.

What's the difference between a basin an a sink?

I know one goes in the kitchen and one goes in the bathroom, but they both do the same job, so why are they called different names?

Why not a bathroom sink, or a kitchen basin?

I was told that a basin (bowel) would be carried to bedrooms for washing before they were fixed in bathrooms and a sink would be sunk into a work top

That's the best I can do, I was also bored, so thought I'd post :P

You can sink your arze into the kitchen one for a quick swill if you want (move the dishes first).
Try that in the bathroom one and you'd B asin about on the floor pretty quick when it fell off the wall.

Wash hand basin should give the game away , height of WHB's is also different than that of a 'kitchen sink unit' , WHB's use an 1 1/4" waste outlet as opposed to a kitchen sink that uses an 1 1/2" waste outlet , the original WHB suffered with self syphonage more so than the sink unit it due to the design of bowl. :P
