at the top when it cooles down can be fine for hours then in the morning when we look at it there are a few tear drop drips, any thought please?

can i just tighten it up??
or is it a means of undoing it (scary) and pfte the thread??!

Tightening might get it.

If not, isolate the radiator, then a few wraps of Loctite 55 or ptfe should sort it.

Take it out and re-make the joint. It's quite easy to do, turn the valves off at both ends of the radiator, counting the number if turns on the lockshield end, then drain off a couple of litres of water. Remove the plug, clean up the thread and add PTFE, then refit. Open the valves up again and bleed the air out of the radiator. Check your work, if it looks good, go have a cup of tea then check it again. Simples
