Hi guys my Mrs has decided to buy new radiator covers it says in description to fit all standard size I’ve obvs not got standard size so I am going to have to lower them but the thing that’s got me stumped is the tvr in the radiator as it sticks out the top I would need it to be at the bottom off the radiator is this possible to do many thanks in advance

The TRV would be sensing a higher temperature, not really relevant to the room temperature, because it would be in an enclosed space with the radiator. It might work, if the cover only covered the radiator, cut so as to leave the TRV outside the cover.

Thanks for your responses the covers have got plenty of slats on them. If I was to move the tvr to bottom of radiator would that not work better as it’s at a side where I could leave it outside thanks again for responding

Rad covers look nice but they substantially reduce the heat output of the rad, from experience.

To fit one you need to move the trv to the bottom of the rad, as others have said really the trv needs to be outside the rad cover

Radiator covers increase your gas usage by about 10% as you have to increase the temperature to compensate for them blocking the heat output. Radiators don't actually radiate, they convect - cooler air enters the bottom and flows vertically out of the top as warmed air. Anything inhibiting this airflow reduces efficiency.

You can fit remote sensing TRVs to ensure the TRV at least gets an accurate room temp reading. Not cheap though... https://www.directheatingsupplies.c...tic-radiator-valve-2m-remote-sensor-07-05-158

Thanks for that your a star I never wanted the things in the first place. I was trying to explain this to my Mrs she’s hard work. I’ll look into the remote sensor

Tell her to get on and fit them herself then :ROFLMAO:
Ha ha love it will need to try that one, "they dont work " How ? "because they dont " but how ? read what @muggles just said he is right, but my sister has them and she has painted them white , same as the radiators :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I think at this rate she will as she’s doing my head in about them. She has just got up and asked will the be done today ha ha I told her I’ll have a cup of tea I need to think about a plan of action

Just tell her to get her lazy arse out of bed and put a washing on and cover every rad with her huge knickers then when she moans about the house being cold , say well we should get covers for the rads then , worked for my mate till he died of Covid the day after
