quick question.

my drainage bolts at the top of my radiators have rounded off, can i take these out and buy replacements.? ( do they come out)

I cant use a normal key type drainer as the radiators are to close to the wall, so these have always opened with a small spanner provided on fitting and now lost.

I have treid to locate a replacement plumbing centre, travis perkins local small shops all no good. now corners are rounded, so would like to replace.

Many thanks.

New rads are needed if the bleed screws are painted to death, time to get a nice convecting rad it the old ones place

You dont drain a radiator from the top.

If you are referring to the bleed vents then yes you can get these in 1/2" or 3/8" varieties from plumbers merchants. The nipples can be unique and hard to obtain so its best to renew the full fitting. Dont forget your PTFE tape.

Terrible design of rad and the only place you will get a nipple to fit is from a scrapy out of exactly same type rad. To remove the old nipple you will have to remove rad and drill it out. Worth it if big expensive rad if small rad just renew it.

Some rads have a removable bleed plug fitted If this is the case you will see a hexagonal as you look at the bleed nipple. I should have also said that a lot of rads dont have this eg Myson rads and the ones that you get from Wickes. Its just the nipple there thats all. In this case you will have difficulty in just getting a nipple and a scrap yard is a good place to look although I have had some from a merchants. They werent a stock item but were there probably there because they had a nipple-less batch of rads at some point and got a bagfull from the manufacturers.

I might take one off an old rad and put it on ebay for a laugh
