Raising beam ties in loft.

Hello,

I am hoping for a little advice.

I have a semi detached house and my loft is very big. It is a pitched roof on 3 sides.

There are 2x4 beams about 2ft appeat roughly 4 ft from the floor. I was wondering if it makes a differance if I just raise them 3 ft?

I am not sure how the structures work so just wanted a little advice.

I just want to put a desk up there to make a little office.
