Just moved into a house - was a repossession but I was advised that the boiler was working fine ( no instruction book though ) - because it was a repo all electric , gas and water have been off for three months - all now restored and all the lights on the boiler that should be on are on (except pilot light ) , and if you run water or put the central heating on it makes all the right noises - the pressure thing was on three which I was told is too high so I bled a radiator and now it is 1.5 - only problem is there is no heat, no flame - or none showing in the little window when working or not working - do I need to 'light' the pilot light, and if so how?

if gas was off at meter. has a tightness test been done by corgi guy [or gal] prior to restoring supply?

Would help us if you told us the exact model of Ravenheat you are talking about?

I have never even heard of a tightness test - just turned the gas back on and the hob was working fine so thought it was okay.
Will check the model number tomorrow as not staying there tonight ( no internet - or hot water !!) - had a quick look when I wrote down the Ravenheat name , but did not see anything that looked like an obvious model number - will just write all the numbers down !!
( It has a little red 'reset' button covered by a screw cover if that is any help)

just looked at a picture on their website - it is either the rsf82t or 84t going by the picture of the controls - and it does seem to do exactly what it should - after 3 secs it boots up and you can hear it going, but no flame. Same with the heating.

tightness test checks no gas leak.some repo jobs have cookers pulled out and leaks left. also any decent corgi guy would have checked operation of boiler, pilot etc [if it has p/pilot] whilst ensuring gas pipework is ok.thats why i thought it had not been tested. let us know model :)

Bearing in mind the chequered history of the property, why are you so reluctant to engage a CORGI to retest the safety of the property and reinstate the boiler operation?

If I have to I will - but I have had to scrape funds together to get where I am , and if the boiler is only not working because I am not pressing the right button , I would rather press that button than pay someone £60 or £80 to press it for me. So that is the reason I am making the effort to ask the questions on here before committing to that cost. Perhaps I am wrong, but I got the idea that that was the idea of the site?

so when u turn on a tap the boiler goes through its start up then straight to lock-out??? do u get heating??

sorry didnt read that properly have u check the gas isolation valve underneath the boiler ( yellow handle ) the engineer might of isolated it

The idea of the site is also to promote safety esp where gas is invloved.
I take it you got the property at a reduced price due to its history so is £60/£80 alot to ask to ensure the safety and well being of the potential occupiers?

Even if the corgi man/woman presses the right button a tightness test will be done to ensure the pipework has integrity.

Good luck in your new house and even though Ravenheat get a bit of a blasting on this site I have only good words on the units my team have installed and serviced over the years with a fantastic tech line on call.

got a (corgi) guy in- he sorted it for £60 - had to take the ignition bit apart and clean it off - he also said in his opinion these ravenheat boilers are rubbish - forgotten what he said now as too technical for me , but something about when one board goes it knackers the other, and vice-versa, and these two bits are over £130 each from ravenheat , and are liable to go again in a year or two - and it is a fault ravenheat are aware of. this bloke has replaced three of their boilers that were around 18 months old with new ones because the owners got fed up of failures - so if mine goes i reckon i will spend the £900 or so and get a replacement boiler of a decent make.
