RC Plus Thermostat

Hello, I am having trouble trying to remove the batteries from our RC Plus thermostat as there's a bit of plastic stopping the 2nd battery from coming out. I can get the first (AA) battery out but not the 2nd hidden one. There's a ridge line thing that's stopping the 2nd battery from coming out freely and I can't grab it. Thanks so much to anyone who might have the answer!

It should slide out but you can remove the backplate. Two small tabs on the bottom push in with a small screwdriver and split it at the seam.
