I took of the cover of a fixed fused spur (switched off and fuse removed) just to take a look at the wiring behind and then whilst screwing back the front plate it tripped the RCD on the consumer unit and I lost the whle power ring. With all the domestic appliances unplugged I still couldn't get the RCD to switch back on; I removed the front plate again, all the wires were tight but no joy; then after removing the front plate around 3 times further the RCD started to function again. I didn't touch any wiring in fused switch yet something caused it to trip whilst just putting the front plate back on. Any ideas :? ?

yes, since it only tripped when you put the face plate back on one of the screws has "cut" through the side of one of the cables.

Cut is not quite the word i am looking for but scored isn't right either
