rcds and rcbs - confused

if my post seems a little rude it's because I had just read your post with the shouting in it and didn't feel like trying to sugar coat a reply to someone who had just mouthed off at all of us en-mass..

Calm down Coopy. Because of the terminology you have been using, it has not been possible to tell whether you are mistaken about something or whether you have found an incorrectly wired board.

You say "I have a split board with common earth and neutral bars" which is a contradiction in itself. You then say that " the incomer is just a normal switch but the power side is covered by an RCD" which isn't very clear at all.

You have also demonstrated a clear lack of electrical knowledge. Even common sense. This is the biggest problem as you appear to be responsible for doing this work yourself.

If you want to learn something, then post a picture of the inside and outside of the CU. Then you'll get some good advice.

Until then, step away from the job and have someone else do it.

There is a way in which this set up can work - if the main RCD is 100mA and is being used as whole property protection. Which leaves the 'power' circuits under-protected and the lighting circuits protected ok. Seems a bit odd though.

What sort of RCD is it? 30mA? 100mA? Time delayed? Is it a TT or TN supply?

I'm guessing that he won't skulk back here after that outburst.. I think he doesn't like our method of presuming that people who say idiotic things are idiots..
