I'm looking to glue something like this:

to a rafter edge..

Only problem is I need about 35 linear metres which is a fairly eye watering cost (that 1.2m length from Screfix is 25 quid) given that it's a low risk of occasional injury (not a space where lots of people circulate often) so I'm casting around for inspiration for other ideas

So far swimming pool noodles (85 quid for a pack of 24 of them) seem to be the best value; I've already got adhesive that will glue them to corners and a table saw for cutting a segment out. Climaflex pipe lagging could also work, but it seems a lot more expensive than I remember.

Stratocell packaging foam could work if I can find reasonably priced sheets - I've probably binned loads over the years just from other purchases..

Any ideas/inspiration on what other similar foam products could work to protect a long 90 degree wooden edge from head impact?

Looking for at least 25mm of foam around the corner, colour unimportant but brighter would be better

CARDBOARD EDGE GUARDS PALLET PROTECTORS from eBay.
About £22.
Then high viz paint about £10.
I'm guessing for inside?
if outside look ar second hand scaffold pole protectors off eBay maybe

Needs to be at least 25mm of something squidgy; they're being fitted to protect the person, not the edge. Those cardboard guards look to be more about protecting the edge, and don't seem to have any resilient cushioning properties?

Scaffolding pole protectors if you can fix on?
Is it for outside?
Second hand ones are cheap

Indoor use, will take a look at scaff protectors; I'd originally discounted them as being too thin but totally forgot to check if they're available second hand and can hence be doubled up for not much increase in cost

I used foam pipe insulation, slit to fit.

In my case it is jammed on but perhaps you could run a line of expanding foam down it before pressing into place.

A picture of the thing you want to pad might help.

The foam is 13mm on a scaff tube protector. If you maintain the circular form, and offset it from the actual hard edge then it will cushion to 20/25mm. You’d get scaff foam for £1/1.50 a metre. Being yellow it helps as you might need to add hazard tape to pipe insulation.
