Not to 'operate' the elderly you understand!

But today's remotes have far too many buttons with features that to some, just aren't needed.

Is there anything that is really simple?

Either a programmable type for a Freeview box, or a Freeview box with a remote that is ultra simple.

Even these large sized remotes still have far far too many buttons.

How are the elderly these days supposed to manage?

Have a look at something like the Zapper from One For All. It's about as basic as a telly remote can get and it's cheap. Zapper

If that's too basic then there are remotes that will do more, but the button count goes up because...well... they do more!!

If you can afford to splash out a bit then you could have something totally customised, with 1" square touchscreen buttons, that could control TV, Freeview box and even the lights; but you'd be looking at £100. It would take away all the hassle though.
