Removed a corroded rad, now no heating but water is fine

Well i went into the loft and tried again, but this time there was no hissing air
So i went round the radiators again, and BINGO. The one in the hall musta been around half full of air! Once that was all released i started the system again... took about an hour for it to get goin but i now have hot radiators again!

I ain't turning it off until after xmas now, just in case lol

when the system is running, go up into the loft and see if water is coming out of the vent pipe that bends over the top of the feed and expansion tank. If so, this is called pumping over, and takes dissolved air into the system, which also causes corrosion and more gas. sometimes it makes a difference if the hot water circuit and the ch are on together.

an old open-=vented system usually has lots of dirt and sediment in it, you can do a chemical clean quite easily using Sentinel X400 which is very mild and non acidic, so does no damage, and only costs £15 in any DIY or plumbers merchant. you can leave it circulating for 4 weeks in normal use before draining out and rinsing to remove the loosened sludge, and refilling with an inhibitor such as X100

other cleaners are available, some are faster acting but many contain acids which can cause other damage. do not accept an alternative.
