CHECK THE FABRIC TYPE FIRST!!! Acetone can dissolve some man-made fabrics (acetates).
If you use acetone, try not to get it on your skin. It is not particularly toxic (hence its use in nail varnish remover) but in big enough quantities it is not good, not to mention the fire risk if your hands get soaked in it!

Get acetone from a chemists' but as previous poster said, be careful !! Once used it on me car sills to remove tar....... took the paint as well !!!!
