Removing paint from brick

I'm in the middle of remove paint from brickwork in downstairs loo. I'm using no nonsense paint remover and scraping it. It was coming of nicely initially but now there's this blue sticky stuff the doesn't want to come up, it seems to just move around the wall sticking to everything. Tried wire wool and that's just spreading it round too.

Any ideas?

How much is there?
Have you tried something like a paint removal bandage?
The paint sticks to fabric that peels off

Even a hot iron and scrap fabric
