Hi,

Previous owners when they painted the sills etc. did a pretty poor job - lots of old white paint splashed/brushed on to red brick exterior. What's the best way of removing this, without damage to the bricks - have tried brick/patio cleaner to no avail. Would anyone recommend nitromoors, or is there a better way of doing it?

Thanks

Henrik

The suggestion above to try a heat gun is probably best. You could try Nitromors. Brick/patio cleaner won't work, as it is an acid, intended to dissolve set cement, etc. - it won't strip paint, for which you need something alkaline, like Nitromors.

Henrik,

Did you mange to remove the paint from your brickwork? If not, there are some reasonable chemical strippers that should do the job with no damage to your brickwork.

Something like PeelAway 1 (now called StripAway) will do the job and it is applied as a paste then peeled off and rinsed clean. Most decorators merchants will sell it and some of the retail stores might also stock it.

There are other chemical strippers available and you can buy small "tester" pots to se if they are OK for the job. I have pasted a couple of links below:

I can vouch for http://www.stripperspaintremovers.com/ , I use their products all the time. NB510 will lift most things but its best to call them first to make sure you get the right stuff for the job. They are also a sister company of anglia lime and do a lot of products aimed at the conservation market so they are more than qualified to advise you on what is best to do.

One thing is if its just patches you might end up with clean spots that may need toning down to match the rest of the bricks, a sootwash might work?
