Hi, hopefully someone can help. I am a plasterer by trade & don't really have the first clue about plumbing so am after some advice. Have recently undertaken a job of skimming a whole house out from top to bottom. This involves draining the radiators, taking them off, skimming and then refitting the radiator in each room.

Draining, & refitting & bleeding the radiators is no problem. I was just wondering if I need to do anything about pressurising the system again after I've finished? It's an old style boiler & the rads are fed by hot water tank up in the attic. Or because the rads are fed by the tank, is there no need to pressurise as the pressure comes from the gravity??

I apologise in advance if that sounds ridiculous bit like I said, I have absolutely no idea when it comes to plumbing.

Be very careful here. If you are unlucky this could turn into one. The feed pipe into the system could be blocked with sludge that has totally plugged the system. This will result in you having issues refilling the system. If you really dont know that much about plumbing then you cld end up having to call someone else out that could potentially render a hefty cost.
Now if you did know enough then you could offer fitting of a magnetic filter and a system clean which would be worth doing whilst the system is drained down. It could go all ok but then again how lucky do you feel? You could also end of with lockshields and valves dripping as sometimes when you disturb these problems occur.

In answer to the pressue thing, no it works on gravity.

Could be worth the expense of a shared responsibility. Get a plumber to strip out and refit/recommission. Any problems become his and he's best skilled to cater for them.
