render cracks

Hi

I am doing some crack repairs on my rendering and i was wondering if someone could tell me the correct mothod. I had planned to cut the offending area out with and angle grinder or bolster back to the brickwork, SBR slurry the hole, scratch coat, top coat. is this a sound method???

Do you know what is causing the cracks?

Before you start filling them this might be useful to know.

The brickwork is sound, the render is painted and has been on the house since new about 25 years so im assuming its just weathering?
