We lost some guttering at the beginning of the year due to the heavy snow and at the same time had a wc on the external wall replastered.

We did have some damp come through the new plaster to the external wall and as gutters had been replaced and the externall wall had dried out, I used some stain block and decorated.

However, we now have damp back and the wall does feel slightly damp - the cause of the damp is definitely resolved.

Is my only option to solve this would be to hack off all the plaster back to the stone wall and replastered?

What exactly did you have done in the way of new plaster? Was it back to brick, then sand and cement and skim, or was it just a re-skim? Are you sure the damp is definitely resolved? Any pics?

The cause has definitely been fixed - it was due to the gutters coming down, but now they have been rlaced, the external wall has dried out completely.

It was an over skim of the existing plaster.
