Repairing garden swing - wood/guidance

Dear all,

Gardener here, can do basic bits and bobs around the house...

How do I go about repairing the roof of this swing?
What wood should I use? Also, is it worth me investing in a nail gun?

Not sure if screwing down will be a good idea...

You need to take pics of the bits that are rotten so we can make comment.

You don't need to by a nail gun. Hand nail/screw will be cheaper.
You'll need to save money, when you spend it all on wood!

It depends if the structure is rotten or just the horizontal slats.
Anyway, nothing wrong with screw, as long as they're good quality zinc plated or stainless steel (I made an experiment with screws to check their quality, described in another thread).
You can pretty much reuse any wood, as long as you treat it.
If you buy new, get the treated wood and make sure you treat and seal the cut ends.

It will be horizontal slats from the roof - otherwise structurally it is sound and no rot.

Get some 3x1 or 4x1 treated.
Or if you want it rain to slide down, some feathered timber used to build fences.
