Hi,
So I am in the process of renevating my house - it needs it as the carpet is in a right state. I would like to put down engineered flooring, I had been looking at laminate but I would prefer engineered wood as this is hopefully my forever house.
I have floorboards down at the moment that aren't in great order - lots of them have split and are loose due to central heating pipes running underneath.
I have been pondering how best to level the floorboards as they are quite uneven - I think some are about 4mm in some places. I had thought about overboarding with plywood using 3.6mm or 5mm then stick fibre boards down and then the engineered floor.
A lot of the engineered flooring I have seen is 14mm up to 20mm thick. Installing it like I have mentioned above would increase the height of the floor to almost 30mm (assuming I got for 20mm) flooring.
Would I be best taking up the floorboards that are down at the moment and replacing with plywood and then install the fibre boards and flooring on that. Could I get away with not such a thick plywood as the base? Or would that still need to be 18mm?
I would prefer not to increase the height of the floor by that much and just wondered what other people have done?
Thanks in advance!
