In my dinning room the wall plate and the ends of some joists have become rotten. I think the issue is the patio step outside bridging over the damp proof membrane. I will be removing the step shortly. Most of the rot was in the centre of the room in front of the patio door which I have cut away and is relatively easy to replace. However, it seems the rot does extend to the back bottom corner of the wall plate which is embedded in the wall:
Of those two remaining joists the one I can see is fine and the majority of the wall plate itself seems fine but I can feel that parts of it are spongy at the back.

Is there an easy and safe way to get it out and replace it?
