Replacing spalled brick, tools and avoiding cavity filling

Do one 4 1/2" outside, then do the inside?
Hi H,
I was puzzling a bit about this, but I suppose the horizontals are level all through, I'll have to give it a go, and see how I get on.
It's lime mortar, so should be easy.
Thanks.

Hi,
I had to fit a Purlin, in a 100mm deep hole in a party wall working through a smallish hole in the ceiling.
I tried carefully drilling and lightly chiselling bicuit slices of brick, until I bought one of these: https://www.toolstation.com/brick-removing-mortar-raker/p36489
I cut out the hole fairly easily, if a bit dusty, brilliant.

The Purlin was posted through the outside wall, after cutting out the bricks with the recipricating mortar saw, as above.

Thanks for the advice,
C.
