Our Lounge currently has an ugly Thorn Housewarmer fire (with backboiler) set against stonework running the width of the room.

I want to remove the fire & stonework and put in new gas fire (coal/wood burn effect) with surround prior to moving.

A gas fire supplier has told us that we cannot simply replace a Thorn fire and will need to rip out and replace the whole boiler, at great cost!

Is this correct? It seems a bit excessive and the boiler is working fine at present.

If I do have to replace everything how much is it likely to cost?

yes hes right...thankfully they stopped making these things years ago.

as for price you need to get three quotes for a new boiler and then worry about your fire.
