Ring plumbing , like a ring main?

Hi,

I am currently re plumbing the whole has, and it would be really easy to make the water, hot and cold, into a ring from the boiler, like an electric ring main.

I know this type of plumbing goes on in your brain, but i wondered if this would be a good idea in a house.

the logic being that if one bit of the ring gets blocked you have the other side to supplement it. Also if one tap is turned on the flow on the down stream taps is much less, but if its in a ring the down stream taps shouldnt be as affected as much.

i would only need about 1.5m of copper to make this happen.

Any thoughts??

A pumped hot water supply is a ring circuit!

A spur system is often better because it reduces the interdependence of the various outlets.

Think of Kirchoffs laws with three outlets on a ring and the middle one is likely to get rather starved of flow!

Not that i know this law intimately, i take your point

I just have two bathroom practically back to back, and its the only water upstairs so i was just thinking you could probably have a shower and flush the bog and not annoy the mrs to much.

Its years since I heard anyone us that term although it was in very common useage in the 70s/80s (?)

A better/easier solution is to restrict the fill rate of the "bog" to about 2 li/min with an iso valve so that it has little effect on the adjoining bathroom.

bad idea.

the electric ring was a way to do things when it came up, but today a radial system is much better.

with water, the idea is even worse.

It very much isn't. You might be thinking of a secondary loop, but that isn't a ring either.
