Roof Torching PVA or masonry stabiliser

Hi there,

I know there has been a few threads on this but just canvasing opinion...

I have a 1930s free standing garage with clay roof tiles and torching (lime mortar) on the underside of the tiles. The torching is dusty and crumbling resulting in the garage being very dusty and chunks (fist size) falling down. Probably 20% has already come off. Long term it needs relaying with a membrane. In the short to medium term I plan to use a soft brush to remove all the loose stuff and then apply either pva or masonary stabiliser with a roller. I figured if I use a 1:1 pva mixture then it might do better job at holding it together.

Does anyone know which might be best?

Its pitty I can’t help but very interested in this topic. Did you find a good solution to your problem?

If I was going down this route I would dilute pva with 50 % water and spray it on.
But I would rather screw plywood to the underside of the rafters if it was about dust.
