Room thermostat wiring. (Updated 03 Oct)

Have you got a wiring center.

And if a pro left it like that he should be shot.

Perhaps it was BAS. :evil:

Here some photo's of the boiler timer wiring...

This is how its been wired.
N: Mains - Boiler - Thermostat
L: Mains
1: UNUSED
2: UNUSED
3: Boiler
4: Thermostat
Earth: Mains - Boiler - Thermostat

So can someone confirm how the wiring on the thermostat should be?

Yes that just shows the red/brown wire going to the stat.

Have you got a wiring center, with a motorised valve etc.

Ok that confirms it.

So the green earth wire is being used as a neutral and wants blue tape on it, and the blue is the switch wire and want a red tape on it.

wire the new stat is.

Brown L

Blue 1.

Green yellow N
 
wire the new stat is.

Brown L

Blue 1.

Green yellow N

Ok, so just to confirm.
Brown (red tape) is live
Blue (yellow tape) is switched live
Yellow/Green is neutral.

I've got some coloured heat-shrink tubing which I'll put on the incorrect/unmarked wires on the thermostat end for future reference.

Brown to L in the new stat.

Blue to 1.
