rug stain

i have tried to clean a flotex carpet that has not been really cleaned for 20yrs there are black stains or something that is ground in if i scrape it it moves what can i put on it to desolve it & then clean the carpet

Not sure what flotex is but I have found White Wizard to be very effective though gentle. You can get it through Robert Dyas or Kleeneze.
