I live in a first floor flat. The floors are wooden with a reasonable amount of ash as soundproofing in the floor as it was built in 1905.

My wife can’t manage to get to the bathroom at night so is using a commode. I’d like to fit a toilet with a saniflo unit to pump the waste about 15 meters. My concern is noise. Would a saniflo unit make a lot of noise and annoy my downstairs neighbours?

If noise with a saniflo is a problem has anyone a good suggestion that does not involve me emptying a commode every morning?

Just number ones or number two's? Before we did away with a tank in the loft, flushing the toilet at night was not a problem noise wise but the filling of the tank in the loft was and would take several minutes to fill and wake the kids so we just got in the habit of flushing once - in the morning. Even though the kids have long left home and we now have no tank in the loft, we still do this - number ones only of course! Maybe this would work for you with a Saniflo?

Noise is not the only thing you need to consider with a macerator. Get a plumber to have a look.

To answer your question, yes it might annoy the people below but by placing the Saniflo on a anti-vibration mat (as used for washing m/c) and also lining the back wall (if required) then the noise will be slightly more than the cistern refilling. You could fully box it in and insulate should the neighbours still complain.
