Santon R70 water heater

hey chaps,

have the above heater on a site i work at. The element is buggered and needs replacing. However, i have tried so f'ing hard today to try remove it and it wont budge (have even tried shouting, banging and stamping my feet to LOL)

anyways, im feeling the only option left is to try and heat around the element with a heat gun or blow torch but which is best??
And has anybody any experience of this and can offer any advice??
or is there another option?
