I need advice on how to remove a scorch mark from a hard plastic type kitchen counter. Thanks.

Hate to tell you this but if its a laminate the only option is to replace it, and don't put hot saucepans directly on to it again, you naughty boy !! ;)

If they're not too deep you can polish them out.

Over here we would use brasso metal polish. You can speed it up with an electric mop, but be careful not to go too far.

I've tried that and you're better off with a belt sander to remove total laminate and replace (unless its a light burn )

Some simpler solutions include covering the burn with ceramic tiles to make a built-on 'hot plate' or to cut out and remove the damaged area and set in a built in cutting board....

is there an effect or pattern on the surface or is it a solid colour?

if its solid then use a product called Bar's Freind. it like a cutting powder very mild, will get shot of most stains ans scorches- testa small area first.
