I have recently fitted a mixer tap to my bathroom sink. the hot is fine, but the cold side makes a screaching noise apart from when it is open to full flow. The tap can't be faulty because I have tried swapping the hot and cold inlets- it only happens on the cold whether it is LEFT side or RIGHT side. when the toilet is flushed or the bathroom tap is on, the noise goes. I have tried reducing the pressure from the mains, but it makes no difference. I have tried putting a regulator valve on the pipe leading to the cold tap- it only slightly reduces the noise. when the taps were seperate before, there was no noise. Any other ideas how to stop this noise coming from the new mixer tap?

This is becoming a more common problem. More so on cheap taps. U can fit a proper presure reducing valve on the water main proir to the tap & this will cure it but it will also reduce the flow. U can't reduce pressure with a stop tap only flow rate. will probably have to crank it down to about 1bar to stop it.
I have got a few ideas for illiminating.
Buy some new taps (with the intention of taking them back), to test the piping is definately the problem.
There is a dog leg of piping where I have moved the old toilet and left the old inlet to the flush sticking up with a block on. There could be air in that which needs bleeding - would that be casuing the screaching on the sink taps?
I have contacted the manufacturers (PHJ) who say it is a common problem but the tap is not faulty. they say that because the taps are a high pressure tap that needs the pressure to be set at 0.5 bars. How do I do that? apparently there is a gauge on my boiler - I can't see one. how will it effect the performance elsewhere i.e. shower. - would it be better to fit a water pressure regulator on a section of pipe prior to the mixer tap ?
Someone else suggested that pressure from both sides (hot and cold) must be equal going into the mixer tap. is this tripe?
