I have an old victorian terrace where there's a coal cellar running underneath the area between the front gate and the front wall of the house. The coal cellar is useful for storing random things in, but every time it rains water finds its way into the cellar.
There's a seal joining the stone under the front gate to the stone that forms the top of the coal cellar. I suspect this is the cause of the leak.
I was thinking of multitool / chiselling the existing material out, filling the gap with pea gravel until approx 5mm from the top, then mortaring the last 5mm. But unless I do this really well I expect this will shrink over the winter and I'll soon be back where I started.
What's the best way for me to do this?
