I'm interested in knowing what's the best amount of time if not in a major rush to leave a self build to settle before rendering the outside. I read a house takes 12 months or more to settle then can continue slowly for many more years after but i often see houses rendered as soon as they have been built?

Secondly, what's the most durable long lasting render finishes to add to a 2 storey house that don't cost a fortune. I'm looking at an alternative to face bricks as they are expensive now.

The reason i wanted brick over render is it's pretty much hassle free once on and I'm sick of smooth renders having issues.

Anyone?
Mainly wanting to know how the render doesn't crack if a house has to settle in for over 12 months?
