Hi,

I recently had 4 rooms plastered in my house.

Mostly it looks okay but on one wall there was an issue with damp after removing the wallpaper. The plasterer suggested removing to the brickwork then using some layer of sealing I guess or damp treatment and then a particular type of plaster - limelite renovating plaster as it looked like the damp was being caused by soot from an old fireplace and this type of plaster was supposed to be breathable and resist those salt damps.

It looked decent enough but as it has dried out I have noticed one large crack running pretty much the entire length of the wall and it is in the same region as the damp was before.

I suppose the other rooms and areas were using some gypsum products - not an expert at all myself though.

I just wanted to know is this to be expected and should I try and fix this myself with some type of filler before decorating or should I get the plasterer to come back and patch it up.

The plaster was applied during the heatwave we had several weeks ago and maybe that didn't help? Not too sure. It's been on about 3 weeks now so I'm assuming it is fully dry.

I can try and use a filler to fix but I'm not confident and don't want to make it worse.

So just wanting to see what the pros here thought.

Thanks

Generally speaking, no, you shouldn't get cracks, and it would be reasonable to ask them to come back.

I guess it depends though if you were supposed to be doing any remedial work to the damp issue before they plastered.

The hot weather could well be a factor, because it causes rapid moisture loss and this disrupts the curing process.
