Shed roof repair

This year my shed roof has been leaking a small bit. It would be extremely difficult to replace the felt because one side of the sloping roof is right up against the fence, so wouldn't be able to nail the felt back down

If I painted bitumen type paint over the felt, would that work?
What is the disadvantage of doing this?
