Should I have faith in this arch?

Hi,

Re-instating a cast iron fireplace into my downstairs bricked up chimney breast. The opening will about 700mm wide and 800mm tall. Ive discovered the arch shown below.

Looks nice and solid, Only hacked off plaster as yet but will do some more investigating before I open it up.

Just wanted to know if these arches (built 1930) are still solid enough to remove lower bricks. Is there likely to be any further support inside the wall?

Thanks
Jack

Looks like a self supporting arch. Any masonry below will *likely* be non-supporting. Go steady and use hand tools to confirm.

Softly, softly catchee monkey..... :D
