Can anyone help with this query? We've just bought an old pine bookcase from our local quids in paper. Nothing special only cost £25, but when we got home we noticed it had wood worm. We've started treating it, but should we risk bringing it into the house - it'll be standing directly on floor boards and up against skirting?

Coat it in raw linseed oil, lots of it. It gums up their jaws :D

I would have gone for a woodwork killer or wood treatment like Cuprinol. It smells a bit but will kill existing and prevent new. Put it on newspaper to treat, and leave it out of the house while it dries off - in a shed or garage, say, because of the smell.

If you have already brought it into the house there is a chjance they will already have infested the floorboards (if real) or other furniture nearby.

If you don't see powdery wood on the floor behind it then it is probably old flight holes that you can see. The beetle is long gone when those holes are made.
