We have a Trevi shower at home, probably had it 20 years. Built into the wall so not a simple job to replace the whole unit. Bit like triggers broom - over the years I’ve replaced the hose, the hand-held shower head, the fixed shower head, the hot and cold flow cartridges several times, the clutch wheel several times and the temperature control knob. Last night I thought it felt a bit cold and I was thinking that mrs M had used all the hot water and it hadn’t had time to heat up again and tonight she tells me she's just had a near cold shower. She thought the hot water had gone off and so did I but it turns out I’m getting very hot water out of all the other taps in the house so it’s not the hot water itself. I’m pretty sure it’s the thermostatic control unit but before I rush out and pay £260 for a new thermostatic valve, is there anything else it could be?

Pretty sure it’s this thing: https://www.showerdoc.com/ideal-standard-trevi-therm-cartridge-a963068nu

Having trouble getting the plastic controls off to actually get to the nut to unscrew the thermostatic cartridge. Carefully put it all back together and it’s a bit warmer now - certainly useable so I’m under orders to leave alone while it’s (sort of) working. Mrs Mottie can see me making it worse and having to dig the wall out to replace it! I’m happy leaving it.

Mine have been like that since I last serviced them too. Universally crap I think!

Managed to strip it out this morning. Looks like a new cartridge needed due to that plastic bit being broken on the bottom. Not unlike a broken thermostat in a car engine.

Mrs Mottie has likened this shower to triggers broom. Over the 20 or so years we have had it, I have replaced the hot and cold valves several times, the hot and cold clutch gears several times, the gear control spindle, one chrome handle, the fixed shower head, the hand-held shower head, the adjustable riser bar shower head holder, the hand held hose and now this. At least it’s not the part I originally thought and I will be able to get one for less than a hundred quid.

Managed to find a brand new one being sold on eBay for £80. Fairly local to me so I’m picking it up tomorrow.

Mrs Mottie having a cold shower is not beneficial to my health! Anyway, all sorted now. She complained it was too hot so I messed about with the adjustments when I was having my shower. Perfecto! (y)

That wasn't nice for me. I imagined you adjusting while shower ing
