I’m looking for advice on installing a bath screen. My landlord has given me permission to install one, but I need something lightweight and fixed. A swinging screen isn’t an option as it would hit the sink, which overhangs the bath.

The wall behind the bath has acrylic panels, and I’m not sure if there’s a stud wall behind them that can hold the weight of a glass screen. I’d really prefer to avoid a shower curtain, so I’m wondering if anyone has experience with this or ideas for a lightweight, fixed solution. Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

A lot of the weight is on the bath edge, pleanty of fixing options when you find out what’s behind the panels

Folding screen with a fixed first panel.

The folding screens without a fixed screen will leak.

Landlord refused to install a shower screen, he said have a shower curtain or fit it yourself but don’t screw into panel unless you know it will hold. Is there any way I can tell.

Going against the wishes of your landlord? Are you up for paying for a bathroom refurb when you move out?

If I know the shower screen will fit I don’t mind paying £100 - £200 to fit it. Wife hates curtains but won’t install it unless I know for sure it will fit and stay on.

Well, you don't appear to have your landlord's blessing, it seems the shower is fitted with some kind of panelling that they aren't going to appreciate you making a hole in, in order to fasten a heavy screen through and into something solid like the wall behind (if it even is solid where it needs to be and not 2 inches of insulation..)

And if you then hit a pipe while you're drilling..

Personally I wouldn't bother. It's not your house and you don't have clear approval from the owner. Putting everything back to how it was when you moved in won't be cheap; if you're desperate for a screen maybe find another place to rent that has one - perhaps letting the landlord know it's a deal breaker for you will change their mind

The landlord does need to fit something to stop water spraying all over the bathroom but it seems you might not get them on board with screen..

Might your landlord have had the bathroom refurbed recently? If so ask them for the details of the person who did it, they might know the structure.

Or you can buy stud finders but I don't know how well they work.
