I've been fighting a loosing battle with the shower drainage. It always forms a small lake in the shower. I was hoping to get into the trap and give it a thorough clean. Can't really see how that it done though. The top bit, inside the tray, appears to be a single piece of plastic, sealed in place. The bottom does appear to rotate around a seal. It's a Megios shower from the 90's and appears to have a bespoke trap. Before I pull any harder on it, does anyone actually know how it's mean to come apart or any tip for cleaning it?

I've come up through ceiling then floor in the past to get waste access.

Tray side it may unscrew. I don't know for sure from photo.

Matching tray and waste is not uncommon and a pain. Often get discontinued.

Can you take a photo of the waste from above, with the grill bit removed?

BTW, I am not a plumber.

Does the drain unblocker liquid not keep it operational ?

More of a question than an answer btw

You can try things like One Shot but they will only melt hair/paper/etc. If someone has dropped something plastic in to it, the acid will make no difference. In the latter scenario, you risk having to undo pipe work with acid in it.

Those kind of traps normally have a middle section which can be lifted up from above. Hence I asked for photos from above.

My money is on the flexible connection. Perhaps undo this and see if there’s a blockage there?

Thanks for the info. I have had the flexible hose off and a quantity of hair does tend to get caught there. Doesn't do wonders to improve the situation though. I've also tried some unblocking fluid. Again, it improves things but it's still not amazing. It would be great to get inside and see what's going on.

You can't get it off and say cleaning the pipework hasn't helped. Change it, for a few pounds, and then you know the trap isn't an issue. A modern one will be easier to clean in the future.

I know that this is a bit like asking "how long is a piece of string"* but is there any buying advice? ie any brands/models which are particularly good or any to avoid or are they much of a muchness?

One other thing, it wasn't 100% clear in the previous picture but there's also a couple of hoses that couple into the trap. I'm assuming I'm unlikely to find a replacement with such an attachment point. Any tips for alternative mounting options?

* Yes, I know that a piece of string is twice as long as half of a piece of string
