Shutting down

Have a stand alone, HP PC at home and it seems to have developed a problem in that when it is shut down properly, the machine will not switch off as it had originally.

We then have t ohold down the power button for a few seconds and the machine then switches off. It starts up again no problem

any ideas?

Can you identify when the problem developed and just prior to that what changes you made to your PC i.e. loaded new software, new antivirus etc., any hardware changes?
