The CH installed in my 1960's Leech house which is a single pipe system (actually 2 pipe loops 22mm downstairs and 15mm upstairs). Over the years I have changed out most of the system with all new radiators (some with TCV's) and some 15 years ago a Baxi Solo 70 PF boiler which uses 28mm flow & return (up to the pump which is upstairs). Since installation the boiler has never been serviced but I have replace a number of parts (fan, thermostats etc). I am now worried that the boiler is reaching the end of its life and as such would look to replacing it with a combi; question is which one?

The system uses a three position Honewell valve which controls Hot Water/CH and is fully pumped. This system also has a scavenger rad in the bathroom which is tapped off before the diverter valve and as such heats up when the system is just delivering hot water.

I have read many of the previous entries about single pipe systems and quite frankly I am surprised at the lack of confidence in this system for which ALL rads get up to temperature (this governed by the boiler thermostat and as such can get very hot - even those governed by Pegler Belmont Temp Regulated valves).

I don't really want to pull the house apart to install a dual pipe system but just want to replace the boiler with a sealed combi system. Any help in making the decision on boiler would be much appreciated.

I would go for an Intergas or Atmos combi on an open vented system if you want to keep the old pipework.

Nothing wrong with a one pipe system, just make sure you fit TRV's that are suitable.
