i ask is I've an awkward sister who occasionally does it to my parent's settee.
she's 55yo so isnt going to change. and parents are too embarrased to say
anything to her.

the settee is 15yo. it's pretty heavy so not sure if can take the abuse
and made or supplied by Peter Guild if that means anything.

so can anyone confirm it damage the arm rests?
I'm confident it does just by the look of the it.

If I'm right, is it common knowledge that it damages them?

Err let me see ... arm rests .... there's a clue there somewhere

Its a matter of pressure determined by weight and contact area.

The armrest should be capable of dealing with a proportion of the weight of her upper body spread across the contact patch as small as her elbow, as opposed to her sitting on the armrest thus placing probably a high proportion of her bodyweight on a contat patch as wide as her buttocks.

It's a simple case of mathematics and knowing ones a*se from their elbow.

To me it's more a matter of good manners. In the same way that I don't expect anyone visiting my home to put their feet up on the furniture or wear muddy shoes around the house.

I don't care if she's 5 or 55 - she should be told!

Is it worth causing a family dispute if it has taken her weight for 15 years without problem. Sounds like she is just irritating you for some reason.
