Skylight foam compression gap

I've a skylight that's 45mm height. For the upstand I measure the batten (being the piece which the weight sits on) to top of lead as 55mm max. My skylights came with foam tape which is 10mm thick. I have no idea how much the foam will compress by when the skylight is on it. Some instructions say to use silcone for the top and the batten.

Does it sound reasonable to shim the foam up 3mm using pvc trim so that as the top silicone compresses any height it looses will be the foam compressing?

If it compresses more than 3mm, that is the skylight is sitting on the lead in some places that wouldn't be great. It's why I'm starting to think the foam is a bit crap compares to silicone which will gain some load bearing ability once its set.

Hope that makes sense!

Might make more sense with a diagram. With mine I was supplied foam tape where it says 'structural silicone'.
