I am about to have a room replasteted. When I was removing the many layers of old wallpaper and reached the sides of the bay window, where it meets the inside wall, the papery crap and plaster came away revealing a thin gap. I noticed that there is a cavity running from top to bottom where there is a gap between the bay window and the outer skin of the brick wall. Not enormous or anything, perhaps an inch and I can see light coming through the clear silicone on the outer face of the window frame. Silicone seals the outside and the plaster n paper closed off the inside with the cavity between the two.
I decided it would be a good idea to drill some holes in the plaster and squirt in expanding foam before the plasterers arrive to improve the thermal insulation and also stop ants getting in... Once it has been plastered over the opportunity will have been lost.
Anyway, I ended up getting paranoid about causing some kind of moisture bridge and creating a problem that doesn't currently exist. There hasn't been any problem, apart from ants which I can kill with powder, so best to leave what isn't broken...? So I haven't yet filled the gap.
What would you do?
