I am having cavity wall insulation put into the house next Friday. They are doing it prior to plasterers coming in and the walls are stripped to brick at the moment. This means that there are a lot of gaps on the inside walls, either loose bricks, gaps in mortar or gaps around the windows.

Are there any recommendations how to deal with
a) small gaps in mortar - is it ok to patch up or best to rake out and repoint with mortar?
b) gaps around the window especially bay window- is it ok to use foam or is there something better?

To be honest I would expect the cavity fill company to do a quick check before coming to install to identify exactly what you are asking about. e.g. if you have air bricks and timber ground floors are the cavities closed around the air brick? Why not give them a ring?
