Hello,

I recently had a new kitchen fitted and the extractor now vents up the chimney, which is capped in the loft, though a vent pipe which passes though a lead slate.

I went up into the loft when it was raining to check if it was watertight and found a small amount of water dripping on the outside of the vent pipe and down my chimney.

I have applied a load of black roof and gutter sealant (from inside my loft)all around where the vent pipe goes through the roof, but it doesn't seem to have worked.

Does anyone have any better ideas of how I could seal the area without getting up on the roof ?

many thanks.

Yes, you could get someone else to go up on the roof.

The person who made a poor job of doing it last time might be worth a try, though you might do better with a more skilled and careful worker, preferably a roofer not a kitchen fitter.

I'm not keen on making holes in roofs; is there no way the exhaust can be vented through a wall?
